A piece that had a big impact on me

Was this the very last blast of that great golden era of NME thinkpieces? I can't think of any after it, certainly not ones that were pulled off.

In a little over a year, the action would shift - the slack would be taken up - on another inkie of course

Talking of which, here's my mash note / answer-record to Barney's piece -  a mini-essay on the voice in pop, from Melody Maker in 1993
